When a family brings a new life into the world, the expectation is one of joy and happiness, but that can be derailed by a birth defect caused by a physician’s negligence. The North Carolina cerebral palsy lawyers at Birth Injury Lawyer Group want to help you, if you find yourself in a situation where you are confused and devastated by a motor function disorder that could have been prevented. Our team is dedicated to providing you with the individualized attention you need during this difficult time.
You may wonder what caused your child’s condition or if it was possibly preventable. Sometimes there are genetic factors that are the cause of cerebral palsy, but all too often we see cases where a healthcare professional’s negligence is linked to an infant’s birth injury. Medical professionals have a duty of care and if they breach that standard, they can be held accountable. We have connections to medical experts who can help provide insight into what may have caused your child’s cerebral palsy. We want to help you get the answers you need.
Cerebral palsy can not be cured or reversed, but with appropriate medical treatment and physical therapy, your child can still enjoy an improved quality of life. Additionally, renovations to your house or to the family car can improve accessibility for your child. Unfortunately, expenses to help your child can add up quickly, but if you suspect a healthcare worker caused your child harm, we want to help you get the compensation you deserve.
Our North Carolina cerebral palsy attorneys want to be your advocate against the big insurance companies and medical institutions. We understand that helping your child cope with cerebral palsy can be physically, emotionally and financially draining. Let us take care of your case so you can focus on what really matters. People who have life-long disabilities from birth traumas often face discrimination as they age. Many employers will turn them away because they’re afraid they can’t do the job or will raise their insurance rates, despite anti-discrimination laws.
One store in Matthews, NC is trying to change the employment culture of the city by only hiring young adults with disabilities, including cerebral palsy. WBTV explains.
ZABS Place Boutique is a thrift store that has been helping people with disabilities find their passions. According to co-founder Rochen Groner, many people with disabilities have been kept from finding their potential because able-bodied people keep holding them back.
“The excitement and the joy that they get from accomplishing things is really, really incredible,” Groner says. “And they notice their own progress.”
The goal of the shop is to teach people with disabilities customer service and retail skills, then get them placed in other jobs within the community. According to the staff and the workers, they’re accomplishing the mission.
One way they spread awareness is by filming weekly videos that highlight the workers, the challenges they’ve faced, and how they’re overcoming them.
Disability discrimination is something families have to watch for and teach their children how to overcome once they’ve been hit with a trauma. Asking for reasonable accommodation while also stretching your limits where you can is an important part of that.
