The FDA has announced a new recall for 23,000 incubators made between 2008 and 2019. The Daily Hornet reported on the matter. Six infants have been injured so far from the medical devices.

The recall covers GE Giraffe Incubators, Giraffe OmniBeds, and Carestations. The problem is that the panels and doors fail to latch properly. They can look closed but can be opened from the inside by infants. The infants who have fallen out of the devices have had injuries like skull fractures, edema, and hematomas.
This recall is in the wake for infant warmers also made by GE that had the same issues. Two infants fell from those beds. No deaths have happened so far from the recall pattern.
Hospitals have been permitted to use the devices but warn that the users must pull on the panels and doors to check for latching before leaving them unattended.
Hospitals trust medical device suppliers to sell safe equipment. Lives depend on it. We hope that the affected families can receive compensation for the injuries to their babies and that GE can find a fix to the door problem before more children get hurt.
If you are near birth, ask your hospital if they use these devices and tell them about the recall so that they can keep your baby safe.
