If you learn your child has a brain disorder, this is something that can be devastating as this may not be curable or reversible. Our diligent Nevada cerebral palsy lawyers understand how stressful this kind of event can be. Our team at Birth Injury Lawyers Group want to assist you in finding the resources you need to get your family the help they need. This can include linking you up with medical experts who may be able to figure out what may have caused your child’s CP.
Cerebral Palsy can be a severe condition, however, this varies from patient to patient. One patient may experience significant impairments in movements or motor function, while others may only exhibit partial loss of control in certain limbs. This type of disorder can be the result of a lack of oxygen to the infant’s brain during childbirth or shortly thereafter. The Center for Disease Control and Prevention estimates this disorder affects roughly 800,000 Americans. Day to day functions may be difficult for someone with a more severe case of this disorder. Physical therapy may be required to help a CP patient navigate common tasks and to improve their overall quality of life. Additionally, a family may need to make renovations to their home to improve accessibility. We understand that these things come at additional costs you may not have been prepared for, but if your child’s condition was the result of medical malpractice there may be help for you.
Our dedicated Nevada cerebral palsy attorneys want to help your family get justice, if a healthcare provider caused your child’s disorder. We understand the emotional stress that can accompany a CP diagnosis and we want to advocate for you, so that you can focus on doing what is best for your family. 17-Year-Old With CP Breaks Her Old Race Record, Raises Money For Charity
Many children with cerebral palsy choose to take up physical challenges that push them to succeed over their disability. Here is an example from Las Vegas. NBC 3 News reports.
Philomena Hawkins managed to do the Las Vegas Great Santa Run in 38 minutes using her walker. The distance for the run is 1.6 miles. Philomena has cerebral palsy.
This isn’t the first time she has done the run, but it is the first time that she has received a time of under one hour. She started preparing for the event in March by working on her core muscles and practicing walking to a nearby Starbucks.
Seven years ago, she participated in the run and it took her over an hour to complete the course. That’s why she set a goal of a sub-60 minute time for this year. Needless to say, she crushed it.
She also raised $7000 in donations from people around the world supporting her run and a charity called Opportunity Village. Philomena wants to participate in more walks and improve her times.
Regular exercise can help people with CP to balance out their motor skills and improve their quality of life. We hope that other children with CP take up exercise after reading about this examples and others on our website.
