Some babies are shaken so badly that there is little chance that they can recover. But one baby has defied the odds in Minneapolis. Fox 9 reports.
A five-month-old baby has shown remarkable recovery after taken to a hospital for treatment for the worst injuries one doctor has seen in a child in all their years of practice.
The mother had watched her son get dropped by the father and took him to the ER. At the time, she thought it was an accident, but now she doesn’t think so. The baby was near-death when they arrived.
The frontal lobe was destroyed and there was brain bleeding. There were also lacerations behind the eyes, nine broken ribs, cuts to internal organs, and even injuries to his genitals. Death was so near that a priest was called to give him last rites.
However, against all odds the baby has survived and is meeting developmental milestones, albeit slowly. It is unknown how much cognitive damage was done due to the baby’s age. The mother has had to leave her career to take care of her son’s doctor’s appointments.
The father, for his part, confessed to the abuse and is now serving a prison sentence. The state is also in the process of removing his parental rights.
