Cerebral palsy can be detected in several ways. Your child may appear to have poor muscle tone or appear rigid when picked up. They may miss developmental milestones or exhibit poor posture and lack coordination. The severity of these symptoms can also vary greatly from patient to patient. While one child may have drastic limitations in movement, another child may only have certain limbs that are affected. A skilled medical professional will need to assess your child to determine a diagnosis. This may take time and several tests.
If your child is diagnosed with cerebral palsy, this can have life altering impacts on your family. There may be frequent hospital visits and even surgeries. Physical therapy may also be required to help your young loved one cope with their disability. Additionally, you may need to make accommodations to your home and vehicle to make accessibility easier for your child.
All of these mounting needs come at a cost, but if you believe your child’s disorder was caused by a healthcare worker’s negligence, one of your Louisiana cerebral palsy lawyers may be able to help you. Contact us today for a free case evaluation to see if you might be eligible for compensation.

"If your child was born with a birth injury, or cerebral palsy, we can help."
For some children born with a birth injury, surgery can make the difference between a life of independence and a life of restraint. A video of one young boy with CP taking his first steps after a tendon surgery has gone viral. CBS News reports.
The five-year-old boy from Greensburg, Louisiana, MJ, was already known to the public after his coach helped him make a touchdown in a little league football game. Now, two months after surgery, he took his first steps without a walker. His mom was there to record the moment.
He has come a long way since his birth at 23 weeks. He was just over a pound at birth. However, he is coping very well with his cerebral palsy. According to his doctors, he will be able to walk fully on his own in the future, so long as he keeps exercising his legs to prevent them from seizing up.
Given the support of his family and how glad he was when he took those steps, that’s not likely to be a problem.
It is our hope that every child who needs a surgery like this can get one. Early intervention in a birth injury case can make a huge difference in the life of a child.
